Start your next mosaic crochet project with Rosina Plane’s latest Mystery Crochet-Along (MAL). Available in two beautiful colourways — Traditional and Modern — this design combines simple shapes and bold colours into one striking blanket.

The Inspiration Behind the Design

Rosina originally planned to take a break in Autumn 2024 to make lap blankets for a local charity. She began creating simple, repeatable geometric motifs that didn’t require constant chart-checking. But, true to her creative style, she turned those motifs into one full design:
Adventures in Overlay Mosaic.

You’ll crochet in single-colour rows using the overlay mosaic crochet technique. The project finishes with a clean envelope border to neatly hide all loose ends.

The pattern includes

full written instructions, marked charts, and reference photos for each section. It’s easy to follow — even for mosaic crochet beginners. There are no special stitches or mid-row colour changes, making it an ideal introduction to the technique.

You can repeat any of the 23 included motifs as many times as you like. Create a longer blanket or use a single design to make cushions, shawls, or multiple small projects.

What’s in the Modern Yarn Pack?

This Modern Colourway Yarn Pack includes 11 x 100g balls of Stylecraft Special DK in the following shades:

• 2 x Purple Smoke (2181)

• 1 x Periwinkle (2183)

• 1 x Mistletoe (2180)

• 1 x Leaf (2176)

• 1 x Pink Rhubarb (2175)

These colours match Rosina’s original Modern version of the blanket.

• Finished Size: Approx. 88cm x 120cm

• Required Hooks: 4mm (US G/6) and 3.5mm (US E/4)

• Pattern Not Included: Buy the digital pattern separately from Rosina Plane’s Ravelry store

This yarn pack includes enough yarn to complete the blanket at the written size. Adjust the quantity if you’re planning to make a larger version.

Due to unforeseen Stylecraft stock issues we may have to substitute certain shades of wool like for like. This is only temporary until Stylecrafts stocks resume.
